Il Doncaster Rovers Football Club, meglio noto come Doncaster Rovers o semplicemente Doncaster, è una società calcistica inglese con sede a Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
La trattativa di acquisto del team da parte di Louis Tomlinson è sfumata.
History
Fondata nel 1879 risulta una fra le più antiche società di calcio del Regno Unito.
Dopo anni di risultati altalentanti e non troppo entusiasmanti passati in Conference, nel 2003 riuscì ad ottenere la promozione in Division 3 (oggi Football League 2) e l'anno seguente in Football League 1.
Nel 2007 ha vinto il Football League Trophy battendo 3-2 il Bristol Rovers dopo i tempi supplementari; in precedenza nella stagione 1989-1990 era stato semifinalista nel medesimo torneo.
Nella stagione 2007-2008 ha vinto i play-off ed è approdata nel Football League Championship, la seconda serie del campionato inglese. Attualmente milita in Football League One, la terza divisione del calcio inglese, dopo aver ottenuto la promozione con il terzo posto in Football League Two nella stagione 2016-2017.
Il club è stato fondato nel 1879 e ha giocato le sue partite casalinghe al Belle Vue dal 1922 al 2007. Nel 2007 si è trasferito al Keepmoat Stadium, che ha una capacità di 15.231 spettatori.
Il Doncaster Rovers ha vinto la Football League Two nel 2008-09 e nel 2012-13, la Football League One nel 2012-13 e la Football League Trophy nel 2015-16. Ha inoltre raggiunto le semifinali della FA Cup nel 1958-59 e della Coppa di Lega inglese nel 2004-05.
Il maggior successo del Doncaster Rovers è stata la vittoria della Coppa di Lega inglese nel 1960-61, quando ha sconfitto lo Sheffield Wednesday per 3-0 nella finale giocata a Wembley.
Il Doncaster Rovers ha una lunga rivalità con lo Sheffield Wednesday, che è la squadra più vicina. Le due squadre si sono incontrate per la prima volta nel 1889 e hanno giocato più di 100 partite ufficiali.
