L'Íþróttafélagið Þór, nota anche come Þór Akureyri o semplicemente Þór o Thor, è una società polisportiva islandese con sede a Akureyri che annovera diverse discipline sportive, tra cui il calcio. Nella stagione 2016 partecipa alla 1. deild karla, la seconda serie del campionato islandese di calcio.
La sua principale avversaria è un'altra società polisportiva della città, il Knattspyrnufélag Akureyrar, noto anche come KA Akureyri o KA.
History
Dal 1928 al 1974 è stata fusa con il KA nell'IBA, vincitore di una Coppa d'Islanda.
La squadra non ha mai vinto i maggiori campionati calcistici islandesi, ha ottenuto qualche piazzamento (finalista Coppa d'Islanda 2011), vinto la 1. deild karla (2º livello del calcio maschile islandese) per due volte (2001 e 2012) così come la 2. deild karla (nel 1975 e nel 2000).
In virtù della finale di Coppa d'Islanda persa nel 2011 con il KR Reykjavík ha potuto partecipare all'Europa League 2012-2013 dove ha incontrato prima il Bohemians Dublin e poi il Mlada Boleslav.
Il club è stato fondato nel 1915 e ha vinto un campionato islandese nel 1984. Ha inoltre vinto quattro coppe d'Islanda, nel 1960, 1963, 1976 e 1985.
Il Thor Akureyri gioca le sue partite casalinghe al Thórsvöllur, uno stadio con una capacità di 3.500 spettatori.
I colori sociali del club sono il bianco e il nero.
Il Thor Akureyri è una delle squadre di calcio più importanti dell'Islanda e ha partecipato più volte alle competizioni europee, raggiungendo per due volte il secondo turno di qualificazione all'UEFA Europa League.
